Haikou, known as " Coconut City ", China largest area of Hainan Province, Hainan Province, The city is the provincial adminis trativecenter of Hainan as well being the focus of the localeconomy，culture and transportation. Because it is located in the north of Hainan Island and on both sides of the Nandu River estuary, so named for the Haikou.

Specialties of Nanjing

Holiday Beach is a major recreational resort in the west of Haikou City, in Hainan Province. The beach, some six kms (about 3.7 miles) long, enjoys a wonderful climate (average temperature of 75.2F), with sparkling waters, waving coconut trees, and plenty of sunshine and blue skies. Here the sun, sea, beach, palm trees side by side, constitute a beautiful natural moving picture. There is not only a tourist and public holiday place, but also as a coastal tourist city of Haikou, the most representative seaside tourist resort.

Arcaded old streets are the historical witness of Haikou City transforming from an ancient town into the prosperous coastal commercial city, and they are the important content of international tourism island construction. A Qilou, or Chinese arcade house form part of the city's most exotic landscapes, and they can principally be found on Bo'ai Street, Zhongshan Street, Xinhua North Street, De shengsha Street and Jiefang Street. In total, there are more than 200 Qilou buildings in the street, including 39 by Zhongshan Street. The oldest building, Sipai Building, dates back some 600 years to the Southern Song Dynasty.Historically, the street has housed consulates, churches, post offices, banks and chambers of commerce belonging to 13 different countries. Today, it remains Haikou's business center whilst also giving visitors a taste of traditional Haikou life.

The Qiongtai Academy was the oldest academy in Hainan and at one time, it was the supreme institution of Qiongshan. Now it is the site of the Qiongshan Teachers' Training School. It was initially built in 1705 in memory of Qiu Jun, a famous scholar from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and being highly respected for his accomplishment in writing and his modesty. The academy was named Qiongtai because Qiu Jun was called Mr. Qiongtai. The two-storey main building is a typical Chinese brick-and-wood structure architecture with green tiles, red corridors, carved beams and painted rafters. The name of the main building is the "Kuixing Lou Building". "Kuixing" was believed to be the god of examinations and the building was named after Kuixing to "help" the students who trained here to win the imperial examinations.

The Bell Tower is listed as one of the eight scenic spots in Haikou. It has a long history and is established as the first to meet foreign trade. It has become one of the most important landmark and symbolic buildings in Haikou. The Bell Tower’opposite is the famous Arcade Street. According to the needs of urban construction, the reconstruction of today's bell tower is in accordance with the original appearance of the old bell tower . After the completion of a major scenic spot in Haikou, named "New Bell ancient sound."

Haikou Volcanic Cluster Global Geopark, also known as Haikou Scenic-Shishan Volcano Cluster, Leiqiong Global Geopark, Haikou Crater Park, and Hainan Crater Park is a national park located approximately 15 km west of Haikou, Hainan, China. It is named for a crater, one of many extinct volcanoes on the island. The park has a total area of 118 square kilometres. It contains the two towns Shishan Town and Yongxing Town, and more than 40 Quaternary volcanoes. Part of the area is called Mount Maanling (Saddle) Crater Scenic Area. This area consists of the two major volcanoes Mount Fengliung (furnace) and Mount Baoziling. Together the appear as a saddle, hence the name. Adjacent to these, there are another two volcanoes, one of which is called Mount Yanjinglin.

The Mission Hills Movie Town, a film-themed tourism joint venture by film director Feng Xiaogang and film production company Huayi Brothers, went into business Saturday in Haikou. Stars including Jackie Chan, Ge You and Andy Lau attended the movie town's launching ceremony. Taking Feng Xiaogang's "1942", "Tangshan Earthquake" and "You Are the One" as the architectural planning elements, it will create an integrated entertainment commercial district and present the style of a Chinese city block with a century-long tradition in the last century.

Evergreen Park is a public park located in Longhua District, Haikou, Hainan Province, China. It is the largest park in the city, and is situated between Bin Hai Road and the north coast of the main part of Haikou. The park contains approximately ten thousand coconut trees and hundreds of species of South Asian ornamental plants. It was opened in January 3, 1996, and is the main site of many of the city's festivals and events, including all the major fireworks displays. It contains an artificial lake, a small amusement park, and various kiosks. It is one of four major parks in Haikou, and can be compared to Baishamen Park, due to its high percentage of grass fields. The other two, Golden Bull Mountain Ridge Park and Haikou People's Park, have a high percentage of tree cover.

Haikou Century Bridge links the main part of Haikou city to Haidian Island, a district separated from Hainan Island by Nandu River. The bridge is 2683 meters in total length and 29.8 meters in width and is available for automobiles and pedestrians. Haikou Century Bridge project started in 1998 and was completed in 2003. The expense on the project was said to be around RMB 660 million.
